The current Democratic party is basically the Reagan Republicans with more emphasis on civil rights.

US politics have skewed further and further rightward for the last 50 years. On a global scale, Democrats are firmly center-right.

Bernie Sanders and AOC are barely left of center for the rest of the world, but in US politics they’re “off the deep end.”

Ten-year-olds understand quite a lot of things. They don’t always think before they act, but they would absolutely understand this object lesson.

It’s water. It’s not harmful. Getting splashed with water is most ten-year-olds’ idea of a good time in most scenarios.

Is this the most constructive way to go about teaching a kid how to behave properly? No.

Is this going to scar the average kid for life? Also no.

There are definitely elements of Christianity that mimic Greco-Roman (and other, older) mystery religions. Down to celebrating their deity’s birth at the same time and commemorating his death and rebirth by having followers share bread and wine.

My favorite theory of the origin of Christianity is that it was a Jewish attempt to mimic the mystery religions that were popular at the beginning of the Common Era.

My childhood bestie’s dad was one of the only bald men in our church. He pulled out this story every time anyone in our youth group mentioned it.

I was raised super fundamentalist, but I eventually came to the same realization as you.

My family was super meat-centric for all holidays except Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Any meal where it’s physically possible to barbecue, we would. And a family barbecue meant hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, pork steaks, and beef steaks – one of each per person, plus a couple of extras. Sides were German-style slaw and potato salad. Buns were not included, but my grandma would always put a stack of white bread on the table (she was the only person who ever ate it).

When I started dating my husband and took him to a family holiday, he was shocked by the fact that my whole family was eating hamburgers and hot dogs with flatware instead of on buns. And he was actually sad at the lack of side dishes.

When I went to one of his family barbecues, I was sad that there was just one hamburger per person (already on a soggy bun) and a ton of weird casseroles.

Where’s an entmoot when you need one?

Maybe a “breakfast bar” or an “oatmeal bar.” I think a UK flapjack has a more cake-like texture than a US granola bar.

I guess if your wife needs revenue to survive, you can’t argue with how she earns it. At least, that appears to be the point they’re trying to make.

You’re exactly correct. I used to work in a manufacturing environment, and the amount of single-use plastic our production team used on a daily basis was staggering. I would estimate that company created as much plastic waste in one day as my household did in three months.

Consumer recycling or boycotts is only a drop in the bucket. Industry will have to shift away from single-use plastic if we’re going to have any chance of saving ourselves from a future filled with generations worth of garbage.

The Colombian one is pretty accurate, but it should probably have bacon on it, too.

The “unprofessional conduct” that he’s alerting us to is his own behavior, right?

I read that and thought, “Whatever is coming is probably a huge breach of business etiquette.” And I was right.

Edited to add: If the candidate’s behavior in the interview was so egregious, why would you even waste your time with follow-up calls? It sounds like they wanted to hire the guy, but he wasn’t interested in working for them after the interview. Sour grapes, anyone?

A properly darned sock doesn’t feel any different from a new sock. And if you match the color of the yarn, it can be nearly invisible.

I think visible mending is more fun – my husband’s socks have colorful little patches that make us both smile.
